Music Classes
At HCS, we strive to ensure all students have equitable access to music classes. In an era where music programs are often being cut, HCS families have opportunities to choose how their child can make music a part of their education.
The music program at Hickman Charter School offers a variety of opportunities for your child to experience the joys of learning music! These opportunities include:

Students have the opportunity to join our growing band program! Each Fall/Spring, several "Beginning Instrument" classes are offered to get students introduced to an instrument.
Once students have taken a beginning Instrument class, they can join Beginning Band (spring) or Charter Band (year-round).
Instrument choices include:
-
Flute
-
Clarinet

Saxophone
-
Trumpet
-
Trombone
-
Piano

The Charter Band is also looking for singers!
Singers will be assigned verses/choruses we are learning in band and choose an easy instrument (e.g. ukulele) for songs that don't have vocals.
Contact Dr. Coss if you are interested in singing with the Charter Band.
Students MUST SIGN UP using the Google Form to attend the band classes. Please check the class calendars before signing up.

Choir
Hickman Charter School is committed to providing children with one of the finest music education experiences in the state. Since we meet only once each week, each child will be provided with a practice tape and workbook, and music to practice at home. They will have a lot of fun singing and learning at home. A student who has finished all eight levels of music at Hickman will be leaving with a music education on the level of a second year college music student.
-
Children's Chorus is broken into sections based on grade level: kindergartners, 1st-2nd graders, and 3rd-8th graders.
-
Students who have completed the necessary prerequisites are eligible to participate in the Honor Choir. Honor Choir students present several programs each year. Most recently they performed "Frozen." On alternate years, the Honor Choir has traveled to Disneyland to perform at the magical kingdom!
