American History
Come and celebrate the 5th grade year as we explore our American heritage together.

Walk Through the American Revolution
Fall/Winter 2025
This fast paced program is an engaging way to learn about the people and events of the American Revolution. Please be aware that this is a team event and a firm commitment is needed when signing up. (See www.californiaweekly.com for more info.)

The Transcontinental Railroad
April/May 2026
9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.
4th & 5th grade students will be divided into two teams: the Union Pacific Railroad and the Central Pacific Railroad. While learning about the facts behind the Railroad, students will compete by completing various physical and mental activities to see which team will lay the most track.

Unit 4: American Revolution
Activity Day
Walk Through the American Revolution Activity Day ​
Participants are placed in 3 teams and will be performing skits based on important events of the American Revolution. After registering for this event your child will be assigned an important and influential person from the Revolution. We encourage your child to research and practice reading the assigned person. This will help the activity day become more relevant and applicable.
Parents and families are invited to watch the program.

Unit 6: A Western Expansion
Activity Days​
The Oregon Trail
4th & 5th grade families

The entire family is encouraged to navigate the 2000 mile Oregon Trail (the entire Hickman campus) in your own wagon party. Students will take their "covered wagon" across the Blue Mountains; navigate the "waters" of the Columbia River; trade with helpful Native Americans and encounter many other places and situations along the trail. Students will celebrate their journey of a lifetime in Oregon City (the auditorium) at an ol' fashion square dance.

There will be separate activities at the same time for siblings in Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
